Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Effects on fertility

Additional information

E-glass microfibre is inorganic and have low biological activity. E-glass microfibre does not translocate after intake (ingestion or inhalation). E-glass microfibre is not biosoluble, does not have leaching potential and is not dissolved in the lung fluid after inhalation. Due to these characteristics it is evaluated that exposure of males and females in a pre-mating period will not affect the fertility. It is evaluated that the continued exposure of the females after fertilisation (the dams) will not result in exposure of foetuses and, hence, no effect in the foetuses is expected.

Short description of key information:
The study of this end-point is waived. E-glass microfibre is inorganic and have low biological activity. E-glass microfibre does not translocate after intake (ingestion or inhalation except into the pleura). E-glass microfibre is not biosoluble, does not have leaching potential and is not dissolved by the lung fluid after inhalation. Due to these characteristics it is evaluated that exposure of males and females in a pre-mating period will not affect the fertility. Further, it is evaluated that the continued exposure of the females after fertilisation (the dams) will not result in exposure of foetuses and, hence, no effect to the foetuses is expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

E-glass microfibre is inorganic and have low biological activity. E-glass microfibre does not translocate after intake (ingestion or inhalation). E-glass microfibre is not biosoluble, does not have leaching potential and is not dissolved by the lung fluid after inhalation. Due to these characteristics it is assessed that exposure of males and females in a pre-mating period will not affect the fertility. Further, it is assessed that the continued exposure of the females after fertilisation (the dams) will not result in exposure of foetuses and, hence, no effect in the foetuses is expected. Therefore, E-glass microfibre shall not be classified as toxic to fertility or development, i.e. not toxic to reproduction.
