Description of key information

This end-point study is waived, as scientifically unjustified. E-glass microfibre is inorganic and is manufactured at temperatures of approx. 1500°C (molten glass). Absence of certain reactive groups in the structural formula establishes beyond reasonable doubt that the substance is incapable of rapid decomposition with evolution of gases or release of heat (EU test method A14 - Explosive properties). Furthermore, Bretherick's Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards was also consulted. In accordance with this authoritative handbook and the other information, it is evaluated that E-glass microfibre does not possess explosive potential.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

E-glass microfibre is inorganic and does not contain chemical groups associated with explosive properties. Many years of practical use of the fibres support this statement as well as information in Bretherick's Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards.

Justification for classification or non-classification

E-glass microfibre is non-explosive. E-glass microfibre is inorganic and does not contain chemical groups associated with explosive properties.
