Description of key information

The water solubility of the test substance was determined by the flask method (EU Method A.6 and OECD 105) to be 55.6 g/L at 20 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
55 600 mg/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The water solubility was determined by the flask method according to EU Method A.6 and OECD 105 in 2010 by the Výzkumný ústav organických syntéz a.s (Štreit V). The test substance and water were added to three stoppered glass vessels. The vessels were shaken in a water bath at 30 ºC for one, two, and three days. After the shaking was completed, the temperature of the solutions was lowered to 20 ºC ± 0.1 for a period of 24 hours. The saturated water solution was analysed in order to determine the concentration of the test substance.

The test substance contains one main component, 1,4-bis(2,3-epoxypropoxy)butane, and many different impurities. The determination of the concentration of the test substance was performed as determination of the main component. Content of the products of hydrolysis was higher in the four-day-old solutions due to oxirane ring opening reactions.

The water solubility of the test substance is 55.6 g/L at 20 ºC.
