Description of key information

A test according to guideline EU A.10 was conducted to determine the flammability of titanium carbide (TiC; > 99.7 % purity).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

In the burning rate test TiC was ignited with a red-hot platinum wire. The burning rate over the whole distance of 250 mm was measured. The burning rate over 250 mm of the test substance TiC (titanium carbide) is 402 s. Since the time of burning is longer than 45 s TiC has to be considered as non combustible.
