Description of key information

The melting point of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT) was determined by using differential thermal analysis (DTA). No melting point up to 450°C was observed. The thermal stability of MWCNT was determined by using differential thermal analysis and isotherm step thermal analysis (DTA and ISTA). No thermal decomposition up to 450°C was observed (Erstling, 2007a).

A TGA (Thermogravimetric analysis) showed a strong exothermy and a drastic loss of weight at a temperature of about 490°C indicating ignition of the sample  at that temperature. The results of the DSC (Differential Scanning Analysis) indicated that the sample does not melt up to 400°C under inert atmosphere (Lecloux, 2011a).

Test material is meeting the form as described in section 4.5 of the IUCLID dossier.
