Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, a study does not need to be conducted as the substance is inorganic.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

MWCNT are inorganic substances.

Determinaton of ready biodegradation according to the OECD 301 series (or similar) does not apply to inorganic substances. The prerequisite for a ready biodegradation test is an organic substance which might be degraded to finally form carbon dioxide. As part of research programs, studies have been carried out and the tests with MWCNT using the OECD method 301 showed a maximum oxygen consumption of 6% in 28 days (Weyers, 2006a).
