The IARC has evaluated Diesel Fuels as follows (IARC, 1989):

·       There is inadequate evidence for the carcinogenicity in humans of diesel fuels.

·       There is limited evidence for the carcinogenicity in experimental animals of marine diesel fuel.

·       Overall evaluation: Marine diesel fuel is possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B). Distillate (light) diesel fuels are not classifiable as to their carcinogenicity to humans (Group 3).

 

Diesel Fuelhas harmonized at EU level classification and it is classified as Carc. Cat. 3; R40 Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect, in accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC and Carc. 2, H351: Suspected of causing cancer, in accordance with the GHS criteria of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 with the following note:

 

Note N: The classification as a carcinogen need not apply if the full refining history is known and it can be shown that the substance from which it is produced is not a carcinogen. This note applies only to certain complex oil-derived substances in Part 3.

 

Therefore, no additional testing ofDiesel Fuelfor carcinogenicity is required.
