Description of key information

The acute toxicity of 3-hydroxy-1,1-dimethylbutyl 2-ethyl-2-methylheptaneperoxoate was evaluated with Cyprinus carpio in a study performed in accordance with OECD testing guideline 203 and GLP requirements. LC50-96h was determined to be 1 mg/L.

The acute toxicity of 3-hydroxy-1,1-dimethylbutyl 2-ethyl-2-methylheptaneperoxoate was evaluated with Cyprinus carpio in a study performed in accordance with OECD testing guideline 203 and GLP requirements.

Ten fish per concentration were exposed for a maximum of 96 hours in a flow through system to nominal concentrations of 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 mg/L.

Within 24 hours all fish had died at 3 mg/L. After 48 hours, all fish had died at 1.5 to 2.5 mg/L. At the end of the test, 50% mortality was recorded at 1 mg/L. Measured concentrations were between 80 and 110 % relative to nominal.

The LC50-value decreased from 2.5 mg/L after 24 hours of exposure to 1 mg/L at the end of the 96-hour exposure period. Hence, no stabilization of effects was observed at the end of the test period.

As a consequence, 3-hydroxy-1,1-dimethylbutyl 2-ethyl-2-methylheptaneperoxoate is considered as highly toxic to fish (Acute toxicity Category ).
