Description of key information

Based on a GLP-conform OECD guideline 301C test, m-toluic acid is readily biodegradable (92 % degradation after 28 days). According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VIII, studies on abiotic degradation and adsorption/desorption do not need to be conducted since m-toluic acid is readily biodegradable and has a low log Pow.

m-Toluic acid has a log Pow of ~2.4 (2.37 - 2.42) and thus a low potential for bioaccumulation.

In sum, based on available information, biotic degradation is the only fate process expected to influence fate and subsequently toxicity of m-toluic acid in the environment.
