Preliminary test


The TGA-curve of the test item is shown in Figure 1 (attached). From 150 °C upwards the weight of the sample decreased significantly. At 212 °C the sample weight had decreased by 25 %.


 


After the experiment it was observed that the test item had completely evaporated from the sample container.


 


Main study


The DSC-curve obtained is shown in Figure 2 (attached). No effects were observed during heating and cooling which could be attributed to crystallization and/or melting of the test item (results of the cooling are archived in the raw data). After the experiment, no changes in the appearance of the test item were observed.


 


To further investigate the melting temperature of the test item, two subsamples of the test item were stored for 24 hours; one subsample at -22.5 ± 0.8 °C and the other at -83.3 ± 2.2 °C. It was observed after storage that the test item was a liquid (-20 °C freezer) and a viscous liquid (-80 °C freezer). According to this it was concluded that the melting temperature of the test item is < -80 °C (< 193K).


 


Conclusion


The melting temperature of 3-trimethoxysilylpropane-1-thiol was determined to be < -80 °C (< 193K) based on a storage experiment in the freezer.


 


 

Conclusions:
A freezing temperature value of < -80 °C (< 193 K) at 1013 hPa was obtained for the substance using a relevant test method and in compliance with GLP. The result is considered to be reliable.
