51% biodegradation in 28 days was determined in a reliable study conducted according to an appropriate test protocol, and in compliance with GLP.

3-Trimethoxysilylpropane-1-thiol (CAS 4420-74-0) is expected to hydrolyse within the timescale of the ready biodegradation study (half-life 2.6 h at pH 7 and 20 -25ºC) to 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propanethiol and methanol. The biodegradation observed in the study is attributable to the biodegradation of the methanol hydrolysis product.

Methanol is readily biodegradable (OECD 2004).

No significant biodegradation is expected for the silanol hydrolysis product.
