Description of key information

Waived: The 2-ethylhexanoate portion of the tin bis(2 -ethylhexanoate) salt is readily biodegradable. The Sn(II) portion of the salt is inorganic, and testing of biodegradability is neither required nor relevant.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The tin bis(2 -ethylhexanoate) substance is known to dissociate into the 2-ethylhexanoate and Sn(II) components upon introduction to water. At the circumneutral pH encountered in the environment, these components will occur as the soluble 2-ethylhexanoate anion and insoluble solid Sn(IV)O2. The former component is readily biodegradable, while the latter is an inorganic species for which testing of biodegradation is neither required nor relevant.
