Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The target substance is an UVCB substance consisting of adipic acid, di-anhydride with bis(acetic acid) (ca. 57 %), Acetic acid (ca.32.5 %), acetic anhydride (ca. 7.1 %), adipic anhydride (ca. 1.5 %) and oligomeric adipic anhydrides (ca. 1.0 %).

Acetic anhydride is unstable in water and decomposes immediately (half-life about 4 minutes) in contact with water to acetic acid/acetate. Adipic anhydrides hydrolyse also rapidly when in contact with water to adipic acid and acetic acid.

Acetic acid and adipic acid are not expected to hydrolyse since the compounds lack functional groups that hydrolyze under environmental conditions.

The half-life of acetic acid in air is calculated to be 26.7 days. The Handbook by Mackay (1993) is peer-reviewed and is considered to be reliable and suitable for use as a key study for this endpoint.

Half-life for adipic acid was estimated as 2.9 days using EPISUITE program
