Description of key information

Two acute studies are available in birds:
In the key study (Wildlife International Ltd. 1991) the substance was administered by diet for 5 days and gave a LC50 >5620 mg/kg food.
In the supporting study (Wildlife International Ltd. 1991) a single oral gavage dose was administered and gave an LC50 of 1838 mg/kg/bw.
Furthermore, chronic toxicity studies are not indicated in regard to the large dataset for mamamlian data.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Short-term EC50 or LC50 for birds:
5 620 mg/kg food

Additional information

Two acute studies are available in birds.

According to Regulation (EC) 1907/2006, Annex X Column 2, chronic avian testing is not needed due to the large mamallian dataset available on N-(n-octyl)-2-pyrrolidinone.
