The physical state of Butyl Phosphorothioic Triamide (NBPT) was determined to be a white solid at 21.3 °C. The odour of Butyl Phosphorothioic Triamide (NBPT) was characterized as "garlic-like" or "burned rubber" at 21.2 °C.

Melting point/freezing Point: The test substance, butyl phosphorothioic triamide (NBPT), was determined to have a melting point of 59.1 ± 0.0°C (332.3 K).

Boiling Point: The test material volatilized with decomposition at approximately 444 K (peak temperature) at 100.91 kPa. As the test material volatilized with decomposition, no value for boiling temperature could be determined.

Density: The relative density of the test material has been determined to be 1.22 at 20.0 ± 0.5°C.

Particle Size Distribution (Granulometry): The result shows that the proportion of the test material having inhalable particle size (< 100 µm) is 0.199% indicating that the test material is essentially non-inhalable.

Vapour Pressure: The test material has been determined to have a vapour pressure of less than 1.1 x 10-3Pa at 25°C, using a vapour pressure balance.

Partition Coefficient: The test substance, NBPT, was determined to have an overall mean octanol/water partition coefficient of 2.78 ± 0.05. The mean log Pow was 0.444 with an absolute standard deviation of 0.008.

Water Solubility: The solubility of NBPT in water was determined to be 43.04 g/L. Results were based on the average of triplicate radioassays of three saturated solutions over a sixty-six hour incubation period at 25°C.

Surface Tension: The surface tension of the test item aqueous solution read on the instrument was 67.0 mN/m at 20 °C using the ring method representing the mean of five separate measurements.

The test material is considered not to be a surface-active material.

Flash Point: The test is not conducted on solids. Since the submission substance is a solid the flammability test (section 4.12 of IUCLID) is conducted instead.

Autoflammability: The test material has been detennined to have an auto-ignition temperature of 376 ± 5°C. The test material has been determined not to have a relative self-ignition temperature below its melting temperature.

Flammability:

- Based on the results of this study, Butyl Phosphorothioic Triamide (NBPT) did not burn with a flame or smolder along 200 mm within 4 minutes, and therefore was not considered highly flammable.

- Based on consideration of the structure and experience in handling and use of the substance pyrophoricity is not considered a concern.

- Based on consideration of the structure and experience in handling and use of the substance, flammability on contact with water is not considered a concern.

Explosiveness: In accordance with collumn 2 adaptation (Annex VII, section 7.11) of REACH Regulation 1272/2008, the study does not need to be conducted if there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule. The submission substance does not exhibit any chemical groups with explosive properties. Therefore the study is not conducted as negative results are expected based on structure.

Oxidising Properties: In accordance with collumn 2 adaptation (Annex VII, section 7.13) of REACH Regulation 1272/2008, the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials, for example on the basis of the chemical structure (e.g. organic substnces not conatining oxygen or halogen atoms and these elements are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen, or inorganic substnces not conatining oxygen or halogen atoms). Therefore the study is not conducted as the submission substance is predicted not to be oxidising based on the chemical structure and experience in use.
