Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
March to May 2010
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. certificate)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Remarks on result:
other: No propagation of combustion was observed

The flame of the gas burned ignited the test substance pile. The test substance glowed, burned with a yellow flame and turned into a charred residue. Black smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 3 seconds and no propagation of combustion was observed.

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of Sodium toluenesulphonate. No propagation of combustion of the test substance along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 min was observed. According to the guideline performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained Sodium toluenesulphonate was considered "not highly flammable".
Executive summary:

The flammability of Sodium toluenesulphonate was determined according to European Community, EC No. 440/2008, Part A: Methods for the Determination of Physico-chemical Properties, Guideline A.10: "Flammability (Solids)", Official Journal of the European Union No. L142, May 31, 2008.

The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of Sodium toluenesulphonate. No propagation of combustion of the test substancee along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 min was observed. According to the guideline performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained Sodium toluenesulphonate was considered "not highly flammable".
