Description of key information

Due to the properties of dilactide no hazard to sediment organisms is expected.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to column 2 of REACH Annex X, point 9.5.1, long-term toxicity testing for sediment organisms shall be proposed if the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I indicates the need to investigate further the effects on sediment organisms. Testing is waived since dilactide is readily biodegradable (see 5.2.1) in the environment and will not adsorb to sediment (see 5.4.1) and is rapidly hydrolysed to lactic acid, which is not toxic to aquatic organisms.
