Results and discussion

Effect levels
Key result
Sex:
male
Dose descriptor:
LDLo
Effect level:
3 000 mg/kg bw
Mortality:
During another part of the study 3 animals died after injection of 3000 mg/kg bw within 24 to 48 hours.
Clinical signs:
No abnormalitites were seen up to 600 mg/kg bw. All monkeys exposed to 3000 mg/kg fell into a coma immediately after administration and remained recumbent for 3 h to 2 d. Additionally, anorexia was observed.
Gross pathology:
No lesions in the eye, but slight effects in the liver.
Other findings:
- Histopathology: No lesions in the optic nerve or central nervous system
- Potential target organs: Liver
- Other observations: The highest dose level led to increased formate level, decreased pH in blood as well as delayed excretion of methanol and secondary products
