Description of key information

The melting point of acetylene, measured as the triple point, is - 80.7°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-80.7 °C

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the melting/freezing point study does not need to be conducted below a lower limit of -20°C. The CRC Handbook (Lide 2008) is peer reviewed and is considered reliable and suitable for use for this endpoint. The second study (Merck Handbook (O'Neil 2006)) is also a peer reviewed handbook and reports a value of -81°C (192.5 K) and supports the value reported in the CRC Handbook. The melting point is reported as the triple point temperature.
