The substance consists of three major constituents comprising Patchouli alcohol (one part) and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (two parts) detected as three peaks by headspace analysis.

Vapour pressure was determined based on the two hydrocarbon constituents as the third peak determined by headspace analysis, which was attributed to the alcohol constituent, did not contribute significantly to the vapour pressure of the whole substance.

For environmental risk assessment purposes, the vapour pressure of patchouli alcohol is estimated to be 0.0328 Pa at 25°C (Modified Grain Method in MpBpwin v1.43, EpiSuite v4.10).

The vapour pressure of the substance, as tested, is reported as 0.94 Pa at 20°C; this represents the hydrocarbon part of the oil.
