Contributing activity / technique for the environmentopen allclose all
- Name of activity / technique:
- Formulation- Environmental exposure- Patchouli alcohol
To assess environmental exposure and risks of Patchouli oil, three major constituents were chosen: alpha-guaiene to represent the sesquiterpene hydrocarbons with lower boiling point, alpha-bulnesene to represent the sesquiterpene hydrocarbons with higher boiling point and Patchouli alcohol to represent the sesquiterpene alcohols. The typical % (w/w) of each block is respectively 32.5%, 32.5% and 35%. This leads to the following assessed EU tonnages for the three substances:
Alpha-bulnesene: 500 x 0.325 = 162.5 tonnes/year
Alpha-guaiene: 500 x 0.325 = 162.5 tonnes/year
Patchouli alcohol: 500 x 0.35 = 175 tonnes/year

- Name of activity / technique:
- Compounding (Patchouli alcohol representing the sesquiterpene alcohols)
To assess environmental exposure and risks of Patchouli oil, three major constituents were chosen: alpha-guaiene to represent the sesquiterpene hydrocarbons with lower boiling point, alpha-bulnesene to represent the sesquiterpene hydrocarbons with higher boiling point and Patchouli alcohol to represent the sesquiterpene alcohols. The typical % (w/w) of each block is respectively 32.5%, 32.5% and 35%. This leads to the following assessed EU tonnages for the three substances:
Alpha-bulnesene: 500 x 0.325 = 162.5 tonnes/year
Alpha-guaiene: 500 x 0.325 = 162.5 tonnes/year
Patchouli alcohol: 500 x 0.35 = 175 tonnes/year - Environmental release category (ERC):

Alpha-bulnesene: 500 x 0.325 = 162.5 tonnes/year
Alpha-guaiene: 500 x 0.325 = 162.5 tonnes/year
Patchouli alcohol: 500 x 0.35 = 175 tonnes/year

Alpha-bulnesene: 500 x 0.325 = 162.5 tonnes/year
Alpha-guaiene: 500 x 0.325 = 162.5 tonnes/year
Patchouli alcohol: 500 x 0.35 = 175 tonnes/year
