Description of key information

Benzyl acetate is a colourless liquid with a characteristic odour. The melting point was reported to be -51.5 °C and the boiling point 213.5 °C. Benzyl acetate has a relative density of 1.054 g/mL. The vapour pressure at 25 °C was calculated to be 0.25 hPa. The vapour pressure were estimated by regression to be 0.003906 Pa at -51.5 °C and 31973 hPa at 426 °C.

The partition coefficient of the test material has been determined to be log P = 1.96 at 25 °C.

A range of solubilities for benzyl acetate was determined at different temperatures. Benzyl acetate was determined to be slightly soluble with a water solubility of 0.266 wt % at 20 °C. The flash point of the test substance was reported to be 102 °C. The auto-ignition temperature of the test substance was reported to be 461 °C. Benzyl acetate is non-flammable, non-explosive and non-oxidising liquid with a viscosity of 4.5 mPa s (dynamic) at 25 °C.The substance is not classified for any physical chemical hazard under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
