Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
(Q)SAR
Adequacy of study:
weight of evidence
Study period:
22 November 2021
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
results derived from a valid (Q)SAR model and falling into its applicability domain, with adequate and reliable documentation / justification
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: QSAR
Version / remarks:
US EPA On-Line EPI Suite™ v4.0 model KOWWIN
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: QSAR
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
4.22
Remarks on result:
other: Details on pH and temperature not provided - QSAR
Conclusions:
The substance has been determined to have a log Pow 4.22 as determined by QSAR
Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance reacts violently during the performance of the test
Conclusions:
Determination of partition coefficient n-octanol/water is technically not feasible for aluminium alkyls and not required because the substance reacts
violently during performance of the test and therefore cannot be conducted.

Description of key information

1191-15-7, diisobutylaluminium hydride,

The endpoint is waived: The substance is water reactive.

The substance has been determined to have a log Pow 4.22 as determined by QSAR

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
4.22

Additional information

According to the Annex VII Standard Information Requirements for REACH, determination of partition coefficient n-octanol/water is required. Column 2 - specific rules for adaption from column 1 - states that partition coefficient n-octanol/water does not need to be determined in case substance reacts violently during the performance of the test. Aluminium alkyls are highly reactive towards oxygen (air), water and alcohols as explained below. They are exclusively marketed in liquid state and shipped under UN transport class 4.2 (substances liable to spontaneous combustion I pyrophoric liquids) or at least under class 4.3 (substances which in contact with water emit flammable gases).
