Description of key information

Triclosan is not readily biodegradable according to OECD ciriteria. However, the substance is inherently biodegradable in water. In a water-sediment system Triclosan will settle in the sediment and will be degraded within 104 days by 78.2 - 78.6 %. In soil Triclosan is primarly transformed to methyl-Triclosan. Half-lives of methyl-Triclosan at 20 °C were calculated to range from 39 to 153 days depending on the soil type.
