Biodegradation in soil under aerobic conditions was investigated in a guideline study conducted in compliance with OECD 307. Degradation in three different soil types was investigated at 20 °C (sandy loam, clay loam, loam). Aerobic degradation of the substance in soil resulted primarily in formation of methyl-Triclosan. The half live of methyl-Triclosan was 96.7 days in sandy loam, 153 days in clay loam and 39.2 days in loam (Ciba Specialty Chemicals 2007). In a second study on biodegradation in soil following U.S. FDA Technical Assistance Document, Section 3.12 a half live of Triclosan in silt loam of 35.2 days, in loam of 29.1 days and in sandy loam of 14.7 days was reported (Colgate-Palmolive Company 1994).
