Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish

Eastman, 1995, GLP, OECD TG 203, Pimephales promelas, LC50 (96h) >1039.9 mg/L.

With high probability acutely not harmful to fish.

Long-term toxicity to fish

The ACR approach (BASF SE, 2021) resulted in NOECs greater than 10.4 mg/L.

In Annex IX section 9.1.6 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, it is laid down that chronic tests shall be proposed by the registrant if the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects on fish. According to Annex I of this regulation, the chemical safety assessment triggers further action when the substance or the preparation meets the criteria for classification as dangerous according to Directive 1272/2008 or is assessed to be a PBT or vPvB. The hazard assessment of the substance reveals neither a need to classify the substance as dangerous to the environment, nor is it a PBT or vPvB substance, nor are there any further indications that the substance may be hazardous to the environment. Therefore, and for reasons of animal welfare a chronic test on fish is not provided.

Long-term toxicity not expected (NOEC > 10.4 mg/L).

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Eastman, 1995, GLP, OECD TG 202, Daphnia magna, EC50 (48 h) > 559.6 mg/L.

With high probability acutely not harmful to invertebrates.

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

QSAR Toolbox v4.4: Daphnia magna,21-d NOECs, reproduction and mortality: NOEC = 13.2 to 16.8 mg/L

Long-term effects are not to be expected.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and plants

BASF AG, 1989; Study number 7-BASF-Ökolimna-02/89/-022, non-GLP, according to German Industrial Standards DIN 38412-9, Desmodesmus subspicatus, ErC50 (72 h) = 3170 mg/L, ErC10 (72 h) = 870 mg/L.

Acutely not harmful to algae

Toxicity to microorganisms

BASF AG, 2003, report no. 03/0084/08/1, GLP, OECD 209, EC20 (30 min) > 1000 mg/L.

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when the substance is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
