Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when 2-ethyl-N,N-bis(2-ethylhexyl)hexylamine is introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Experimental data for the toxicity of the substance to aquatic microorganisms are available. The toxicity was determined in a GLP short-term respiration test similar to OECD guideline 209 using domestic activated sludge. After 180 min the EC10 was 970 mg/L based on nominal concentrations (BASF, rep. no.: 08G0387/053373, 2010).

In this study the nominal test concentrations exceeded by far the assumed water solubility. An inhibition of the activity of microorganisms in wastewater treatment plants is not expected up to the maximum water solubility.
