Description of key information

A key study for LaCl3 was identified of which data could be read across to lanthanum acetate. Dietzmann (2010) reported a 28-d NOEC for development rate and emergence of the chironomid Chironomus riparius of >= 1320 mg La/kg sediment dw. This NOEC corresponds to a NOEC of >= 3003 mg/kg sediment dw when expressed as lanthanum acetate.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Only one study was identified as reliable (Klimisch 2 because read across from LaCl3). Dietzmann (2010) performed an OECD 218 study with the chironomid Chironomus riparius. Emergence and development rate remained unaffected up to the highest exposure concentration, yielding a 28-d NOEC of >= 1320 mg/kg sediment dw, based on lanthanum. This lanthanum concentration corresponds to a lanthanum acetate concentration of >= 3003 mg/kg sediment dw.
