Description of key information

Regarding results obtained for the mixed TDA and 2,4-TDA. It is necessary to make distinction between these two susbtances to evaluate the acute

toxicity effects.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

For mixed TDA (80% of 2,4 -TDA and 20% of 2,6 -TDA), 4 references, validity 2, described studies performed on different species for acute oral toxicity. The key study evaluated effects on mice and rats. The respective LD50 obtained indicated same range of toxicity for the both species and were : 380 mg/kg bw and 179 mg/kg bw.

Only one study validity 2, on females rats for acute dermal toxicity was available, the LD 50 was 463 mg/kg bw. The clinicals signs indicated: bad appearance, disturbance on respiration and convulsions. At high doses effects on hind paralysis and cyanosis, plus haemorrhages in stomach were reported.

No data were available for acute inhalation for mixed TDA.

For 2,4 -TDA, only 2 studies from same author and performed for acute oral toxicity on rats males and females were validity 2 and chosen as key studies. The LD50 were 136 mg/kg bw for males and 73 mg/kg bw for females.

No data were available for dermal and acute inhalation for 2,4 -TDA

Justification for classification or non-classification

Classification according to Annex I of the directive 67/548/EEC - 26. on the basis of acute toxicity:

T Toxic, R 20/21 Harmful by inhalation and in contact with skin. R 25 Toxic if swallowed

By CLP, Acute Cat 3, Danger. Toxic if swallowed.

Acute cat 4. Warning. Harmful in contact with skin. Harmful if inhaled.
