Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2010-11-04
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks on result:
other: Not carried out based on results of the pre-test.

First Pre-Test for Safety Reason

A small amount of the test item was carefully heated on a magnesia chute with the gas burner. After melting the test item started burning. Removing the burner the flame died immediately. No ignition with self-propagating flame was observed.

Pre-Test

The test item started to burn immediately with red and yellow flame. It was noticed that the substance started to melt, emitting smoke. Immediately after removing the burner the flame died. The residue was glasslike. Neither propagation of combustion nor ignition with self-propagating flame was observed.

Determination of Burning Rate:

Not carried out based on result of the pre-test.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:

No ignition with self-propagating flame was observed throughout the experiment.
Therefore, the test item Reaction product of 2-hydroxybenzoic acid, styrene and oxozinc can be considered as not highly flammable (not combustible).
No observations were made which might cause doubts concerning the validity of the out-come of the study.
Executive summary:

After ignition with the flame of a teclu burner, the test item started to burn with red and yellow flame. Melting and the formation of smoke were observed. After removing the burner the flame died immediately. No propagation of combustion was noticed. Therefore, the test item Reaction product of 2-hydroxybenzoic acid, styrene and oxozinc should be considered as not highly flammable (not combustible).

Description of key information
