Description of key information

No data are available for the long-term toxicity of benzyl acetate to aquatic invertebrates.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

This data point has been waived for benzyl acetate on the basis that the environmental risk assessment has demonstrated safe use for the aquatic compartment in all exposure scenarios of the substance’s life cycle when based on existing aquatic acute and chronic (in fish and algae) data only. Furthermore, chronic data is available on the most sensitive species from the acute aquatic toxicity studies (O. latipes). As such, further data for the long-term effects of benzyl acetate on aquatic invertebrates are considered unnecessary. In addition, benzyl acetate is readily biodegradable and therefore non-persistent, and is not expected to bioaccumulate (given that its Log Kow is less than 3.0).
