Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

By analogy with TFANa, the 96h LC50 of TFAK is >1200 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data on potassium trifluoroacetate is available for this endpoint. However, a reliable key study is available for sodium trifluoroacetate which is used in a read-across approach. The results expressed in TFANa is directly applied to TFAK in a worst case approach (i.e. the molecular weight of Na is lower than the molecular weight of K).

In this 96-h acute toxicity study, performed under static conditions following the OECD Guideline 203, Zebrafish (Danio rerio, n=10) were exposed in a limit test at 1200 and 0 mg/l of sodium trifluoroacetate in duplicate. No mortality was observed resulting in a LC50(96h) > 1200 mg/l and NOEC = 1200 mg/l of TFANa. All validity criteria were fulfilled, i.e. mortality in fish control < 10%, constant conditions were maintained throughout the test, dissolved oxygen concentration was >= 60% of the air saturation value throughout the test, and tested concentration has been maintained for at least 80% of the nominal concentration throughout the test.

By analogy, potassium trifluoroacetate is considered as not harmful to fish.
