In the key study, fish acute toxicity was investigated under GLP conditions following OECD TG 203. Due to the low water solubility, the test concentrations were prepared as water accomodated fractions (WAF) as described in OECD TG 23. The test concentrations could not be chemically verifed due to the lack of a sufficiently sensitive method to determine the test substance in the test solutions up to its saturation limit. Therefore, the results are based on loading rate ("nominal concentrations"). No effects were found up to the highest tested concentrations. The 96 -h LL50 was > 100 mg/L (BASF, 2011).

A second guideline study is available: a static test with the Golden orfe (Leuciscus idus) which followed the German Industrial Standard DIN 38412, part 15. This study is of lower reliability than the above described study as it was reported that on the water surface an oily film was observed in all test concentrations. Moreover, after 96 h the aquaria were cloudy in the concentrations equal to or higher than 4.64 mg/L. Based on nominal results, the 96 -h LC50was determined to be 10.52 mg/L. The NOEC was 4.64 mg/L (BASF, 1987).

In conclusion, the substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to fish.
