Results and discussion

Clinical signs:
70 workers who came in contact with the 1,3-dichlorobut-2-ene were under medical observation. 39 men had individual maladies or pathological conditions which could be of occupational nature. In 13 cases there were heart and respiration maladies, in 16 cases alopecia, in 2 cases, anacidity of the gastric juice.
Due to the work connected with washing and polymerization of chloroprene alopecia was observed. Individual maladies like a feeling of pressure in the heart region, connected with tachycardia after rapid movements or strain were also present. Other changes in the organisms were not observed as yet. Albumin in the urine was found only in a few workers; in these cases the strong toxic action could be anticipated. Often an irritation of the mucous membrane and necrosis of the horny layer of the skin was observed; this happened, however, only when the materials were handled without the necessary precautions.
