Long-term toxicity to invertebrates: 21-day NOEC ≥47 ng/l (highest concentration tested) (OECD 211), read across from analogous/structurally related substance, dodecamethylpentasiloxane (CAS 141-63-9).

There are no reliable long-term invertebrate toxicity data available for 1,1,1,3,5,5,5-heptamethyl-3-octyltrisiloxane (CAS 17955-88-3), therefore good quality data for an appropriate structural analogue, dodecamethylpentasiloxane (L5, CAS 141-63-9), have been read across. A 21-day EC50 value of >47 ng/l and NOEC of ≥47 ng/l (highest concentration tested) have been determined for the effects of dodecamethylpentasiloxane on adult mortality, reproduction and growth of Daphnia magna. The results have been obtained under flow-through conditions and are expressed relative to mean measured concentrations of the substance.

In view of the use of flow-through test conditions it is likely that the test organisms were exposed primarily to the parent substance.
