Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 96h-ErC50 of the test substance to the green algae (Selenastrum capricornutum) was 1.82 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
1.82 mg/L

Additional information

As no data of chromium trinitrate is available for this endpoint, data on chromium trichloride can be used for read-across in a weight of evidence approach, as aquatic toxicity is mainly determined by the chromium(III) cation. Two short-term tests were conducted to fresh alga (Selenastrum capricornutum). Both studies were conducted to evaluate the short-term toxicity of the test substance to the algae during 4 days exposure. The 96h-ErC50 of the test substance (chromium trichloride) to the green algae (Selenastrum capricornutum) were 0.4 mg Cr/L and 0.397 mg Cr/L respectively. Thus, the 96h-ErC50 of chromium trinitrate to the algae can be estimated as 1.82 mg/L based on equimolar toxicity and this value is taken forward for hazard and risk assessment.
