Description of key information

The acute oral toxicity of carbon black is very low; no clinical signs of toxicity were noted in rats treated by gavage with the maximum technically achievable dose (8,000-10,000 mg/kg bw). No dermal toxicity was detected. No cardiovascular or lung effects were found in rats exposed for 4 hours to 4.6 mg carbon black/m³.
