Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

For blown castor oil, a study on the aquatic toxicity is available for daphnia. Data for fish, algae and sludge were read-across from blown rapeseed oil and blown linseed oil.

An overview of all results is presented in the table below:

Test

Exposure concentrations

Result (nominal, WAF tests)

Algae

OECD 201

nominal concentrations of 1, 3, 9, 27 and 81 mg/L - read-across to linseed oil, oxidized

72h-ErC50: 25 mg/L, which is in excess of the solubility limit, rel 2

Daphnia

OECD 202

WAF test, loading rate of 100 mg/L

48h-NOEL and 48h-EL50: > 100 mg/L, rel 1

Fish

OECD 203

nominal concentrations of 100, 153, 244, 391, 625 and 1000 mg/L - read-across to linseed oil, oxidized

96h-LC50: 198 mg/L, rel 2

SludgeOECD 209 WAF with loading rate 100 mg/L - read-across to rapeseed oil, oxidized  3h-NOEC: 100 mg/l

Conclusion

The highest toxicity was observed for algae (72h-ErC50) at 25 mg/L, which is in excess of the water solubility. No toxicity observed at levels up to water solubility
