Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The boiling point for blown castor oil is read across from blown linseed oil and blown rapeseed oil. Blown castor oil is expected to decompose before boiling.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The boiling points for blown linseed oil (BLO) and blown rapeseed oil (BRO) were determined according to OECD 103. The tested BLO had a viscosity of 1 Poise and BRO had a viscosity of 60 Poise. No boiling of the test substance was observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started which was 300°C and 350°C, respectively. It was concluded that BCO has no boiling temperature as the substance decomposes before boiling.
