Description of key information

A carcinogenicity study is not available and has not been performed with dichlormethylbenzene and its isomers. In the in vitro and in vivo genotoxicty studies, dichloromethylbenzene was not mutagenic/genotoxic. Furthermore, in the available subchronic gavage study in Wistar rats as well as in the EOGRTS OECD 443 study no pathological or histopathological findings indicative for a neoplastic potential were observed.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the  the available subchronic gavage study in Wistar rats as well as in the EOGRTS study and taking into account the absence of a genotoxic potential in the available in vitro and in vivo mutagenicity/genotoxicity tests, dichloromethylbenzene and its isomers is not considered to be a suspected carcinogen.

According to CLP classification criteria (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008) a classification for carcinogenicity is not justified.
