Description of key information

The chemical structure of dichloromethylbenzene indicates that there are no functional groups associated with pyrophoric properties or with flammability upon contact with water. Additionally, the flash point of the individual DCT isomers has been determined to be > 60 °C (85 °C at 1015 hPa; Heinz, Krasemann, 2010). Hence dichloromethylbenzene and its isomers are not regarded to be flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the flash point (> 60 °C) as well as the structure of the molecule and taking into account the provisions laid down in Council Directive 67/548/EEC and CLP (1272/2008/EC), dichloromethylbenzene and its isomers do not have to be classified with respect to flammability.
