No data are available for phototransformation in water. This
is not expected to be a significant removal process for H2-L2,
dimethylsilanol or dimethylsilanediol; in the case of H2-L2, this is due
to its rapid hydrolysis in water.
Experiments carried out for dimethylsilanediol indicate that water
soluble small molecule silanols may undergo aqueous photolytic oxidative
demethylation with tropospheric ultraviolet radiation in the presence of
suitable chromophores, such as nitrogen oxides, to give silicic acid and
carbon dioxide (Buch et al, 1984).
Such degradation is also possible for the intermediate silanol
hydrolysis product dimethylsilanol. However, it is not taken into
account in the exposure assessment for dimethylsilanediol or
RR, Lane TH, Annelin RB, Frye CL (1984). Photolytic Oxidative
