The requirement to test the substance for octanol-water partition coefficient is waived because in contact with water the substance hydrolyses very rapidly to form dimethylsilanol (intermediate hydrolysis product) and dimethylsilanediol as the ultimate hydrolysis product. The log Kow of the silanol hydrolysis products dimethylsilanediol and dimethylsilanol have been determined by appropriate methods.

Log Kow values of 4.5 and 4.7 were determined for the parent substance using a modified OECD 117 test method and validated QSAR prediction method respectively. The results are considered to be reliable. A predicted log Kow of 0.6 was determined for the intermediate hydrolysis product (dimethylsilanol) and the ultimate hydrolysis product (dimethylsilanediol) has a measured log Kow of -0.38.
