61.3-61.5mN/m at 20C (1g/l)
There is no data available for the surface tension of triethylene glycol
ethyl ether. There is however information on read across substances that
allow interpolation to predict the surface tension behaviour of this
substance. In a guideline study, the a substance consisting of
predominantly tri and tetraethylene glycol monobutyl ether was not found
to be surface active. A solution of 1g/l in water produced a surface
tension of 61.4mN/m at 20C. A study to assess the surface active
properties of the substance 2-(2-(2 -methoxyyethoxy)ethoxy)ethanol found
that the concentration response curve was not far from ideal (ie the
curve was almost linear) indicating that it has very little surface
activity. From the data in the study, it is possible to predict that the
surface tension of a 0.1% solution is likely to be similar to that of
pure water. By interpolation, it is possible to predict that the surface
tension of a 0.1% solution of triethylene glycol ethyl ether in water
will be tween 62 -71mN/m and is probably more likely to be closer to the
latter. Further data to support this interpolation is attached to
chapter 13 of the lead registrant's dossier.
