Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance decomposes at 198 °C (OECD Guideline 102), however, according to DSC, the substance appears to have a melting point at 80°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
80 °C

Additional information

Test result is reported as follows:

1.        Subject: Melting Point of zinc 3,5-bis(α-methylbenzyl)salicylate

2.        Item: Measurement of the melting point (microscopic melting point method)

3.        Test sample: zinc 3,5-bis(α-methylbenzyl)salicylate (Lot No. 31205)

4.        Test result: It was impossible to identify the melting point., decomposition point: 197.8 degree C

The value determined from the DSC method used to determine boiling point shows a phase change at 80°C so the melting point for the substance could be as low as 80°C.

This value is taken as its melting point
