Description of key information

From: Azuka et al., 2004:

The pharmacokinetics of TMPCC have not been studied; however, aspects of its chemical structure and physical chemistry suggest how it might be handled by the body. The relatively high lipophilicity and relatively low molecular weight (approximatey 420 daltons) of TMPCC suggests that it is possible for the compound to be absorbed by the dermal route. If absorbed, TMPCC is likely to be a substrate for the non-specific esterases that are ubiquitously distributed in the body. De-esterification of TMPCC would produce two medium-chain fatty acids (octanoic acid and decanoic acid) and trimethylolpropane. Straight-chain fatty acids are normal dietary constitiuents and ubiquitous substrates for energy production via beta-oxidation. The elimination pathway for trimethylolpropane is less easy to predict, but it is much more water-soluble than the parent TMPCC and so may be eliminated via urinary excretion, or may be a substrate for oxidation and/or conjugation. These likely metabolites have little or no potential to be developmental toxicants.
