Description of key information

Reliable studies are available that describe the acute toxicity of tert-butyl glycidyl ether to aquatic freshwater organisms (fish, aquatic invertebrates, algae and microorganisms).

The most sensitive organism tested was the Daphnia magna (LC50 (48h) = 14.92 mg/L nominal conc.).

For the aquatic algae the EC50-values with 95% confidence intervals for both inhibition of growth rate (ErC50) and yield (EyC50) after 72 hours were > 82.4 mg/L. The EC10-values with 95% confidence intervals for inhibition of growth rate (ErC10) and yield (EyC10) after 72 hours were 80.0 (58.1 – > 82.4) mg/L and < 0.839 mg/L, respectively. The NOEC-values for both inhibition of growth rate and yield after 72 hours were 26.4 mg/L, respectively.

Aquatic toxicity to fish (fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas Rafinesque)) has been assessed, resulting in an LC50 (96h) value of 172 mg/L and revealing a low potential for fish toxicity. No effects on microorganisms od sewage sludge were observed at a concentration of 1000 mg/L nominal after 3-h exposure.
