Description of key information

Tert-butyl glycidyl ether is not readily biodegradable, not bioaccumulating, and highly soluble in water (WS: 90.3 g/L).

Based on the estimated log Kow of 0.97, the substance is expected to have low potential for adsorption to sediment and soil. In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, the adsorption/desorption screening test has therefore not been conducted. Due to its physicochemical properties, tert-butuyl glycidyl ether will be present, remain, or distribute to, aqueous compartments, and will be degraded or metabolized there.

Additional information

Tert-butyl glycidyl ether (TBGE) was tested according to OECD 301F to be not readily biodegradable, therefore an assessment of the hydrolytic behaviour was conducted. In a read-across approach the experimental results of structurally similar substance n-butyl glycidyl ether are taken into account for the estimation of the hydrolysis rates of tert-butyl glycidyl ether. As a result of this approach the half-life for TBGE is estimated to 20.3 d (at pH 7) and 0.3 h at pH4. At pH 9 TBGE is considered to be hydrolytically stable (hydrolysis rate < 10 %).
