Details on test solutions:
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION
- Method: Stock solution was freshly prepared at the beginning of the test and before changing the test solution. 400 - 2000 µg/L substance were suspended directly in the test medium by stirring. By dilution of the stock solution with test medium the nominal concentrations were prepared.

- Age of parental stock: 2- 24 hours
- Feeding during test
- Food type: Scenedesmus subspicatus
- Amount: 0.22 mg COD at day 0-1, 0.25 mg COD at day 2-3, 0.35 mg at day 4-5, 0.43 mg at day 6-7 and 0.75 at day 8-ff.

TEST MEDIUM / WATER PARAMETERS
- Source/preparation of dilution water: Synthetic medium M4 was prepared on the basis of an ultrapure, deionized water. The medium was aerated until saturated with oxygen, and was left to stand for 24 hours for stabilization.
- Alkalinity: 0.9 ± 0.1 mmol/L
- Ca/Mg ratio: ca. 4:1
- Conductivity: 600 - 700 µS/cm
- Intervals of water quality measurement:
- Temperature: Continuously in an extra vessel close to the test vessels
- pH and oxygen content: At the start of the test and at each change of test solution in the 48 or 72-hour-old solution in one parallel at each concentration

OTHER TEST CONDITIONS
- Photoperiod: day : night rhythm 16:8 hours
- Light intensity: about 5-6 µE/(m²s) in the range of 400 - 700 nm
