Differential scanning calorimetrylThermogravimetry (DSCITG):
Samples of the test item and of a reference material are subjected to the same controlled temperature programme. The difference in energy input necessary to maintain identical temperatures between the test item and the reference material is recorded. When sample undergoes a phase transition, the corresponding change of enthalpy gives a departure from the base line of the heat flow record. Thermogravimetry measures the weight loss of the sample under test simultaneously to the DSC measurement. From this one gets information about material loss by evaporation while heating.
The method is used to determine the melting point and, if applicable, the decomposition temperature of the test item.
